A life connected by music
Wyatt and Laura Coleman
Academy Directors
“Music can name the unnameable and communicate the unknowable.” – Leonard Bernstein
Academy Directors, Wyatt and Laura Coleman, met at their freshman orientation at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music. Wyatt has studied the violin since the age of four, and Laura has been singing since before she could talk. They both knew that they wanted to pursue a higher education focused on music by the time they reached high school, and set their sights on gaining acceptance into the prestigious program at the Moores School of Music. The couple got to know each other in their introductory Music Theory course as freshmen and have been together ever since.
Since the early days of their undergraduate, Wyatt and Laura have shared a passion for music education, and have dreamed of creating an environment where teachers and students can thrive. Their goal for the American Music Academy has always been to create a space where anyone can learn to love music.
Wyatt has been teaching students of all levels in both piano and violin for nearly a decade. Laura has worked with the Royal School of Church Music, and has also directed a number of children’s musicals in her tenure at the Church of the Epiphany. Combining their passion for teaching and their love of music, the Colemans set out to officially open the American Music Academy. Over the years, they have built a network of highly-trained classical musicians that gives them access to the best teachers the Houston area has to offer.
“The American Music Academy is the culmination of a shared passion, a dream, and a desire to share the joy of making music with anyone who wants to learn.” -Wyatt Coleman
